The DTE concept and vision is consistent with a number of ongoing USDOT initiatives, and offers an opportunity to leverage complementary efforts. Two such relevant efforts include two programs here in the Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office: the Real-Time Data Capture and Management and the Dynamic Mobility Applications Programs.
The Real-Time Data Capture and Management Program is composed of a number of projects dedicated to the efficient capture, broad provision, and long-term preservation of real-time and archived data from wirelessly connected vehicles (autos, buses, trucks, and fleet), mobile devices, and infrastructure-based sensor systems. A variety of resources, including a program vision and high-level roadmap can be found at its.dot.gov/data_capture/data_capture.htm. The program has been active since late 2009 and archived and real-time data from connected vehicle research efforts are posted in a prototype data environment at datacapture.noblis.org. The program has recently initiated an effort to develop a next-generation federated data management system, the Research Data Exchange, which is expected to replace the prototype in early 2012. In addition, the program has ongoing and planned data collection efforts spanning a range of small and large scale tests of connected vehicle field tests and research efforts.
The Dynamic Mobility Applications Program is a related effort to identify, develop, and deploy applications that leverage the full potential of connected vehicles, travelers and infrastructure to enhance current operational practices and transform future surface transportation systems management. A wide range of program resources can be found at its.dot.gov/dma/index.htm. This program is composed of a number of projects surrounding the development of high-priority mobility applications enabled by the collection, integration and use of multi-source data from connected vehicles, travelers, and infrastructure sensors. Of particular note is an ongoing project developing an Open Source Application Development Portal to coordinate researchers and application developers working collaboratively on these high-priority applications. The Open Source Portal is expected to be deployed this calendar year.
As the representative of these two programs, I look forward to participating in the DTE development effort and finding opportunities to collaborate and connect our current and planned program activities. Please feel free to continue this conversation, here in IdeaScale, or directly with me. Thanks.
